Although most women do not experience any prenatal vitamin side
effects, they are possible. Some of the side effects of the prenatal
vitamins that a woman could experience are nausea, fatigue and
headaches, heartburn, constipation or diarrhea, metallic taste in your
mouth, loss of appetite, insomnia, orange colored urine, ringing in
the ears (also called tinnitus) muscle aches and pains, vomiting,
bleeding or bruising. Although these are very rare side effects they
can happen and if they do you should seek medical attention
immediately.
The difficulty in these symptoms is that they are very similar to
symptoms of your pregnancy and are difficult to differentiate between
being from the prenatal vitamins and being from the pregnancy itself.
If you are experiencing these symptoms discuss them with your doctor.
They will help you to decide where the symptoms are coming from and
decide what can be done about it.
Prenatal vitamins are designed to give your body and your baby
everything they need to make it through the pregnancy with a healthy
baby and a healthy you. The side effects are something that may not
be anything that you can control and in fact, you may experience
similar effects regardless of the vitamins due to the pregnancy and
therefore, you may decide just to take them even with the side
effects.
These vitamins are very important to the proper growth of your
baby. They allow for the baby to get what is often unavailable in the
food we ingest. If you are a particularly busy person you will want
to be sure to take your vitamins on a very regular basis to ensure you
are giving your baby proper nutrition, even when you do not seem to be
able to get it as often as you would like.
When deciding to take prenatal vitamins or stop taking prenatal
vitamins you should have a discussion with your physician. Some
supplements may have an adverse effect on other medications you may be
taken. Supplements can also aggravate symptoms of some health issues.
Never start a new dietary plan, including taking new vitamins, without
consulting your physician first, particularly when you are
pregnant.
