To understand the L-Tyrosine side effects, you first need to know
what L-Tyrosine is and how it works.
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid considered to be non-essential and it
is produced by your body from what is called phenylalanine.
Phenylalanine is also an amino acid. Tyrosine is the starting point
of neurotransmitters like dopamine, epinephrine, L-dopa and nor
epinephrine. Tyrosine is naturally found in such foods as fish,
wheat, dairy products, meats and oats along with other high protein
foods.
L-Tyrosine is thought to be helpful with and used in treatment of
extreme stress, depression and sadness related to trauma. It has also
been used in some treatment of ADD and ADHD as well as for help for
those going through withdrawal symptoms from alcohol. For those with
ADHD, it is suggested that it only benefits them temporarily, lasting
only a few weeks. Another use has also been for Parkinson's disease
sufferers.
Some people have a natural deficiency of tyrosine such as those
suffering from PKU.
The typical dosage suggested for best results is approximately 7
grams a day for most people. This should be adjusted based on the
weight of the person taking the supplement. Sufferers of PKU should
have the dosage based on blood testing levels and may need to be
adjusted from time to time.
This supplement can be purchased very reasonably, making it
accessible to nearly everyone. The typical price for this product
ranges anywhere from $8 to $15 for a 500 mg 120 caps bottle. You can
find this product in most health food store, drug stores and some
larger department stores. It is also readily available on the
internet.
There are no side effects currently reported associated with the
normal dosage of L-tyrosine. This having been said, large doses and
long term use should be monitored by a physician as there are no test
results for long term use.
As in any supplement change or dietary alteration, a physician
should always be consulted. Some supplements can have an adverse
affect on other medications and can change your symptoms for other
medical conditions, potentially worsening them. For this reason you
should discuss your thoughts and plans regarding changing your
supplement intake.
