It seems like there is a pill for everything. No matter what is
wrong with you, there is almost always some sort of medication that
you can take to relieve the symptoms. Some of these medications are
prescription, some you can buy over the counter at any drug store or
department store. Even your local grocery store keeps a steady supply
of different medications available to you. The assortment is huge and
you would be better off to do a little research before taking any
medication, prescribed or not.
Hydrochlorothiazide, HCTZ, is one of these prescription medications
that doctors prescribe for high blood pressure and fluid
retention. The retaining of fluids might be from a specific medical
condition, such as congestive heart failure or failing kidneys. Like
all medications, there are possible side effects involved with the use
of HCTZ.
Some hctz side effects are diarrhea, constipation, feelings of
dizziness or getting lightheaded. You might have some nausea or loss
of appetite. Some people even experience blurred vision. These minor
side effects usually go away the longer that you take HCTZ. There are
more severe side effects involved with this drug, including muscle
pain, mood swings, irregular heartbeat, a diminished need to urinate,
dark colored urine, and feelings of thirstiness. You may also
experience swollen skin, convulsions, shortness of breath, and
bleeding or bruising. Some have reported fever, chills, feeling very
weak, and a yellow tint to the skin.
These side effects range from mild to severe and this can be very
disturbing to read if you are taking HCTZ. But most people have a very
good tolerance for the drug and you should not let fears keep you from
taking any medication that your doctor has deemed necessary for your
health. If you experience any of the mild symptoms, keep track of
their severity. If they get worse, seek medical attention. If you
experience any of the more severe side effects, go straight to the
doctor, as these can be signs of more life threatening problems
developing. Any questions or concerns that you have about HCTZ should
be taken to your doctor and they will give you all the answers that
you need.
