The Ginkgo Biloba tree dates back 150 million years and provides
products that are well known for their medicinal purposes. Some of the
products from this tree have good effects, and others have bad side
effects. This writing will discuss both types.
A number of ginkgo biloba side effects have been documented since
the herb has been available on the market, and these are still being
investigated. Some of the adverse effects have been, headaches,
vomiting, nausea, restlessness, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal
uneasiness. Anti-depressant drugs have been reported to negatively
interact with the ginkgo biloba, and there have been reports that it
also adversely affects pregnant women who may suffer unwanted
complications
Another side effect of the herb is the sudden bleeding that may
occur to the anterior eye chamber. This does not happen often, but it
is wise to be aware of its possibility.
The platelets in the blood can be modified by the herb, so it is
suggested that anyone suffering from circulatory problems avoid it at
all costs. Using the herb together with anti-coagulants will result in
a greater risk of hemorrhage, and the bleeding may be hard to control
as the platelets will not clot effectively.
Ginkgo biloba is quite well known for its ability as a memory
enhancer, but the results on the studies done have not been
conclusive, mainly because those results have been contradictory and
quite controversial. In some rare instances, it can cause an allergic
reaction in someone taking the supplement.
If side effects are experienced, the dosage should at first be
reduced to see if that helps the situation. If not, then other methods
should be sought to remedy whatever condition ails you.
On the other hand, ginkgo biloba also have a few good effects. One
such effect is that it produces fast results, and takes effect in as
short a period as two and a half hours after taking the supplement. It
is said to increase the oxygen and flow of blood to the entire body an
especially to the brain. This greatly contributes to increased
reaction time, mental clarity and better memory.
There is also a connection between an increase in metabolism and
the taking of the supplement, and it can keep blood vessels supple,
and bring about the relaxation of constricted blood vessels.
