There are some side-effects to gastric bypass just like with any other surgery.
America is an obese nation; it does not take qualified doctors to
tell it to us as most of us have to deal with it everyday. Weight loss
has become a national pastime with little success. Dieting and
exercise does not seem to be helping those who really need a change in
lifestyle. The morbidly obese are getting younger and younger. There
was a young boy on TV some time back, who at 4 years of age was wider
than he was tall. While surgery may not be the solution to the weight
loss of the young boy, the people who are opting for gastric bypass
surgery are getting younger and younger each day, and many are looking
to it as a short, fast route to weight loss without caring of the
gastric bypass surgery side effects
Simple as it may seem, the gastric bypass surgery comes with side
effects and it may not be worth the effort if you don' have a lot of
weight to lose. It is an invasive procedure and lasts up to half an
hour depending on the surgeon. The most common of the gastric bypass
surgery side effects is excessive vomiting after the surgery and this
can be followed by diarrhea and general body tiredness after the
surgery. It is brought about when the body refuses to adapt to the new
smaller stomach and the new functioning of the digestive tract.
Before the surgery, a doctor usually advises their patient not to have
any food prior to the surgery and this reduces the chances of the
vomiting fever and diarrhea that come in after the surgery. It may not
be inevitable but the severity of the fever can be reduced by
operation on an empty stomach. The severity may also be reduced by
reduction of some weight before the surgery for those patients whose
BMI is less than 40.
Excess skins are gastric bypass surgery side effects that affect
almost all the patients who go through it. The severity of the excess
skin depends on the degree of the weight loss. Patients may develop
"bat wings" on the upper arms and excess skin on the thighs and
the mid section. The buttocks and the breasts suffer as well and lead
to more esteem issues for the person even after the surgery. This can
be dealt with through plastic surgery after the body has gone through
the transformation of weight loss. Several procedures like liposuction
and brachioplasty are employed to rid the body of excess skin.
