Doryx is a prescription medication that is commonly used to treat
some of the more severe infections. Although this broad-spectrum
antibiotic is a quality medication that has been used extensively and
frequently, it is not without some side effects. Some of these side
effects are merely annoying, while others can be life threatening. Any
symptom that is sufficient to cause true discomfort should be reported
to the prescribing doctor, as there may be ways to prevent or slow
them down.
Common side effects are similar to a migraine, with a sensitivity
to light and sound, loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting, and severe
diarrhea. A person could also expect to see dark urine that may appear
with decreased urination, a moderate or severe sunburn and previously
unknown bruising, bleeding or joint paint. Some of the more serious
Doryx side effects include hives, tightness in the chest, swelling of
mouth, tongue, face or lips and difficulty breathing. In the event of
life threatening symptoms, the prescribing physician will usually ask
that the patient quit taking their medication and contact emergency
services. When in doubt, it is a good idea to clarify with the
prescribing physician what his or her wishes are in this event.
If the loss of appetite or other digestive problems occurs with
enough frequency as to cause a significant challenge or a change in
the normal body weight, this should be reported as a side effect.
Doryx is typically prescribed to treat chronic eye infections, Rocky
Mountain Spotted Fever, urinary tract infections, and some sexually
transmitted diseases. It is also one of the only approved treatments
for inhalational anthrax. It may be used in conjunction with other
medications to treat severe acne and eliminates and treats the
diarrhea associated with parasitic infection of the intestines, as
well as the infection itself.. Recently, it has also been prescribed
off-label to prevent Traveler's Diarrhea and to eliminate early Lyme
disease. If travelling for less than four months, some medical
professionals advocate the use of Doryx as a possible preventative
measure for Malaria.
Doryx is a serious medication that may appear with many side
effects. However, with adequate follow-up care from a licensed medical
professionalism, it has been proven to be an excellent choice for many
patients and their doctors.
